Embroidered canvases which oscillate between abstraction, script and pictorial motif are a central component of Ghada Amer's work. Born 1963 in Cairo, the artist grew up in Paris and now lives in New York. With her combination of thread and colour, she has created an unmistakable visual language inherent in her work. The museum kunst palast is exhibiting a selection of important paintings and drawings which were created during the last ten years. Many of her paintings do not appear representational from a distance, but upon closer viewing they reveal erotic and pornographic subjects which deal with issues concerning the role of the sexes.
