Overige informatie

The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) in Beijing is a not-for-profit, independent art center, one of the first to be developed in China. Recognizing multiple geographic and cultural perspectives, UCCA is creating a platform for dialogue around current social and artistic experiences.

UCCA’s three galleries will present a variety of exhibitions of contemporary art from China and abroad, including major solo shows of mid-career and established artists, and group exhibitions that explore the recent developments in art practice.

The UCCA aims to be China’s most comprehensive institute for contemporary arts. Our education program plays a very important role as we aim to reach as wide an audience as possible, bringing the public into contact with art, the artists and their ideas.

Our education program aims to make our exhibitions, facilities and events accessible to schools and universities, offering creative learning resources, lectures and tours that inform, stimulate and challenge. Artists’ talks, panel discussions and film screenings will bring wider audiences into contact with contemporary art and provide an innovative setting for adult learning, family-oriented events and outreach programs which engage the wider community as a whole.

Our reading room and archive will be open to the public and will be the first library of its kind to offer a unique space for research, browsing and quiet contemplation. Through our comprehensive range of activities and events we plan to make art as accessible as possible ensuring that UCCA becomes a center for innovation in arts education.

Working together with schools and educational institutions we aim to help students realize and discover the significance and value of art in their own lives. UCCA will offer a range of different activities, including tours led by our curators and other docents on a pre-scheduled basis, on-site lessons led by educational staff, activity-based workshops, and a special club that allows students to interact more widely with the art and exhibitions. At UCCA students of all ages will be encouraged to seek and construct meaning through their encounters with art.

Learning Resources
In tandem with our exhibitions, UCCA will produce a series of learning packs and resource boxes for teachers and students that aim to develop creative learning skills and help teachers build successful arts-focused lessons. A series of lesson plans will be available for download from our website; these lesson plans will incorporate material from our exhibitions as well as other contextual information. Lesson plans can be used independently by teachers or can be made available in preparation for school visits. Our learning resources will cater to different age groups and abilities but will encourage students to use their imagination and critical thinking skills.

Student Club
UCCA aims to offer much more than just its exhibitions or collections; for students interested in learning more about contemporary art, the artists and their work, UCCA will be establishing a club which will meet two to three times a week. A regular series of talks, discussions, art-based activities and workshops will encourage students to learn more about contemporary art in a creative, interactive environment. Students will also be given the chance to go behind the scenes at UCCA and meet with the curators, artists and other visiting guests.

Adult Education
For those wishing to access our resources, carry out individual research or merely broaden their understanding of contemporary art UCCA will offer a range of public events including seminars, film screenings and public lectures. If you are looking to access more specific material you can make an appointment with our educational staff who will be happy to help you with any queries.

Our Research Room
UCCA’s special reading room will feature hundreds of books, catalogues and journals on contemporary art that will form an important learning resource and a major addition to the local cultural landscape. It will be the only library of its kind in Beijing to focus exclusively on contemporary arts and culture, providing a unique calling station for anyone conducting research or merely wishing to browse our extensive collection. The library will also regularly play host to exhibitions of books, publications and other printed materials.
