Young, British painter Phillip Allen represents the gallery at the “One Man Shows”. The paintings of Phillip Allen are situated on the edge between aesthetics and experiment, between image and process. They take the classical landscape as a starting point and dig it through, by confronting the raw material to an aesthetic image within the same space. Although Allen’s work seems in the beginning rather cheerful and spontaneous, one can gradually notice a certain severity in the structure and will discover a returning syntax built upon different visual clusters. For his participation at ART Brussels, Phillip Allen has created a new series of paintings.
