The dynamic relations between nature and culture, attraction and horror, inner and outer reality, fiction and authenticity, conscious and unconscious, are explored in his work. Mythological figures, abstract convulsive bodies, portraits and romanticised landscapes jostle together in a Dionysian spirit. Cottrell's work is a journey into a world where nothing is predictable: body and landscape melt into each other, faces fragment into sky, animal and human merge.
The exhibition "Nova" will contain paintings, works on paper and sculptures.
