In one of his works, a glass changes into a bottle; in others, a bust of Beuys changes into a rabbit or one letter of the alphabet changes into another. Markus Raetz's work on the theme of perception is always related in some way to various forms of photography (polaroids, photo booths, photographic icons like Elvis, Marilyn or pin-ups). His work tends to turn photographs away from their status as fixed, stable and immediate images.Ikko Narahara
The MEP presents the first exhibition in Europe dedicated to this great Japanese artist. The show looks back on his entire production and shows how he rapidly adopted photography as an instrument for understanding the world and the self. "More than once, I had the impression that the spirit of my photographs achieved a detachment and freedom of the soul close to nothingness : what is called zen" (Ikko Narahara).
