Both artists share a strong personal connection with a certain place and have found a way of bringing this story as a recognizable part of everybody's world. For Scheeren, it's a place everybody knows but finds different meaning in. A playground which gives an insight in the world he inhabits.
Cooper, who has spent her life in South Africa and Zimbabwe until she was 19 years old, has found a way to ignore the anti-apartheid sentiments in her photographs of "White Africans", presenting the lives of those whose fate she could have shared and by doing so, to astonish people; to hear them say ‘I never knew…'.
