Greylight Projects offers the graduates several rooms with different characteristics, which emphasize the individual qualities of the artists. The graduates feel at home in Brussels. Coming from different world regions and having various backgrounds, they identify with this multi-faceted and international city in the proximity of Den Bosch, where they studied. Earlier in the course they worked in Brussels during a collective two-week residency period at WOLKE, and presented their researches at BREW Brussels. Therefore the choice of Brussels as a location for their graduation show came about naturally.
Over the past two years, the artists have studied in depth their individual practices and artistic gestures in conversation with their fellow colleagues, tutors and external guests. The formal qualities, concepts, and methods range from dealing with spatial and architectural situations, from questions about time, space and memory, the performative and the sculptural act, to the exploration of limits and possibilities in painting and installation.
In conversation with curator Petra Heck, the graduates present in their exhibition an aggregation of different artistic practices and approaches coexisting side by side: ‘the collection’. Once you have entered ‘the collection’ – the inspiration configurator – you can wander and find your own way, roaming freely through the former monastery. Meet the conceptual and the impulsive, the tangible and the fuzzy, the rigid and the fluid.
