Awoiska van der Molen's monochrome images are rigorously crafted observations of natural landscapes. Or to be more exact: the works are the result of long periods of her being in the landscape in which Awoiska van der Molen arrives deep into the essence of the remote world in which she creates her photos. For extended periods of time she moves through deserted nature to sense the landscape in a different manner, beyond its initial appearance. This gradual and solitary working process continues in the darkroom, where she prints the analogue gelatin prints by hand up to 140cm wide. Van der Molen’s practice makes one aware of the essence of photography: light and darkness, presence and void. This is her palette. The care and attention to detail makes her photo works noticed because of its powerful serenity and masterful use of photography.
