Ruben Terlou: Along the Yangtze

Over de expositie

Ruben Terlou (born 1985) is a photographer and physician, known for his documentary series for VPRO television ‘Langs de oevers van de Yangtze.’ Terlou combines journalism, film and photography in his projects, as shown in his photo series, where he takes the viewer on a journey through contemporary China. Chinese farmers, workmen, artists and idealists are encountered along the way, and Terlou captures their stories in his pictures. Terlou’s endearing personality, combined with his fluent Chinese, has resulted in deeply personal portraits. In a country where development expands at a higher rate than the population is able to conceive and internalise, unusual situations can occur in daily life. Ruben Terlou knows how to capture the adjustability of the people he meets. At the same time, he shows how human beings always stay faithful to the things they believe in: giving meaning to life.
