heritage, while also adopting to the Dutch culture, was confusing to me. While I was making efforts to assimilate into the new culture, I actually felt like I was
losing the feeling of belonging instead of gaining it.
I became more interested in the effects of globalization, assimilation and especially in the diffusion of cultural symbols. Superimposing and merging images such as coniferous greeneries, abundant in Dutch gardens and tulips, now is considered as a signature of the Netherlands, but is native to North African and Eurasian countries.
The other combinations are more haphazard, yet deliberately turning the cumulative image into something more ambiguous, which I see as a phenomenon of our multicultural society.
